How we use cookies

This page explains the cookies and similar technologies UK Exchange Network would use on ukex.net, what each one is for, and how you can manage them in your browser. It is written in plain English so you can see exactly what happens behind the scenes.

A note on this demonstration. UK Exchange Network is a brand concept presented on ukex.net, a domain offered for sale. The site is a working showcase and does not actually set tracking cookies or process payments. This policy is illustrative — it shows the kind of cookie statement a real currency-delivery service would publish — so you can judge the brand on its merits.

What cookies are

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store on your device. When you return, your browser sends that file back, which lets the site recognise your session, remember your choices and keep things working smoothly. Cookies cannot read other files on your device and they do not carry viruses.

We group cookies in two ways. By origin, a cookie is either first-party (set by ukex.net) or third-party (set by another service we rely on). By lifespan, a cookie is either a session cookie, which is deleted when you close your browser, or a persistent cookie, which stays until it expires or you remove it. We also use related technologies such as local storage and pixels, and treat them under the same rules.

How we use them

We aim to keep our use of cookies modest and purposeful. In practice they fall into two groups:

  • Essential cookies keep the site secure and functional — holding your basket, balancing traffic across our servers and remembering whether you have accepted this notice. The site cannot run properly without them, so they do not require consent.
  • Analytics cookies help us understand, in aggregate, which pages people read and where they run into trouble, so we can improve the service. These are only set once you agree, and you can change your mind at any time.

We do not sell the information cookies collect, and we do not use cookies to build advertising profiles of you across other websites.

Cookies we use

The table below lists representative examples of the cookies this site would set. Names and lifespans are illustrative.

NamePurposeTypeExpiry
ukex_session Keeps you signed in and holds your order while you move between pages of the checkout. Essential When browser closes
ukex_consent Remembers your cookie choices so we do not ask you again on every visit. Essential 12 months
ukex_prefs Stores small preferences such as your default currency and display settings. Essential 6 months
ukex_lb Load-balancer marker that routes you to a consistent server for a smooth, secure session. Essential When browser closes
_ukex_ga Analytics identifier used to measure, in aggregate, how visitors use the site. Analytics 13 months

These entries are examples for the demonstration. As a live service evolves, the precise set of cookies can change, and we would keep this table up to date.

Managing cookies

You are always in control. When analytics cookies are in use you can accept or decline them from the cookie banner, and revisit that choice whenever you like. You can also manage cookies directly in your browser, where you can block all cookies, delete those already stored, or ask to be warned before a cookie is set:

  • Google Chrome — Settings › Privacy and security › Third-party cookies.
  • Apple Safari — Settings › Privacy, then manage website data.
  • Microsoft Edge — Settings › Cookies and site permissions.
  • Mozilla Firefox — Settings › Privacy & Security › Cookies and Site Data.

Blocking essential cookies may stop parts of the site working as intended — for example, your order may not be remembered between pages. To learn more about how we handle personal information generally, please read our privacy policy.

Changes to this policy

We may update this cookie policy from time to time to reflect changes to the site, the technologies we use or the law. When we do, we will revise the "last updated" date at the top of this page. We would encourage you to check back occasionally so you stay informed.
