We took the bureau de change off the high street
UK Exchange Network started with a simple frustration: travellers were paying for shop windows and airport rent in their exchange rate. So in 2009 we moved the whole counter online — and handed the saving back to the people actually going on holiday.
Sharper rates, posted to your door
Back in 2009, buying travel money meant queuing on a Saturday, squinting at a board of rates and handing over a commission on top. The keenest prices were buried behind shop rent, prime-pitch leases and airport concessions — costs that had nothing to do with the currency itself, but everything to do with what you paid for it.
We thought there was a better way. If you take the counter out of the equation and run a single, secure counting room, the savings stop disappearing into bricks and mortar. They can go to the traveller instead. So we built an online bureau that buys currency in bulk, prices it commission-free, and posts it — counted, sealed and insured — to any address in the UK.
Seventeen years on, that idea has carried more than 620,000 UK travellers and supplied over 1,100 partner branches with the cash their customers need. The model hasn't changed, because it didn't need to: keen rates, no commission, and a fair price when you sell what's left back. The only difference is that we now do it at far greater scale, for far more people heading off somewhere good.
Four things we won't compromise on
They're not slogans on a wall. They're the reasons people trust us with their holiday money — and come back the next year.
Sharp rates
We buy currency in bulk on the interbank market and pass the keener price straight to your order — no commission, no card surcharge on debit cards.
Cash you can trust
Every note is hand-counted and tamper-sealed in our counting room, then sent tracked and fully covered from our vault to your letterbox.
Real human help
When you call +1 808 517 5677 a person picks up — seven days a week, 8am to 8pm. No menus to nowhere, no chatbot loops, no queue ticket.
Fair on the way back
Holidays end with leftover notes. We'll always buy them back at a fair rate, with free pre-paid postage — not turn you away at an airport desk.
How we got here
We open the doors
UK Exchange Network launches as an online-only bureau de change, built on one promise: commission-free travel money, posted to your home.
Next-day delivery
We partner with Royal Mail Special Delivery so orders placed before 3pm arrive the next working day — tracked, signed for and insured.
Business & partners
Our partner programme begins, supplying travel agents, building societies and finance teams with white-label currency at wholesale rates.
40+ currencies & sell-back
Our range passes forty currencies and we add free, pre-paid sell-back, so leftover notes turn back into pounds in a day.
Three places, one team
We're a small, deliberately hands-on team spread across the country — close to the City, close to the post, and close to the phone.
Our home in the City, where the rates desk buys currency, sets pricing and keeps a watchful eye on the markets travellers care about.
The engine room. Every order is counted, checked and sealed here before it's handed to Royal Mail — and it's where your sell-back notes come home to.
The voices on the end of the phone, email and live chat. Real people who know currency, sort delivery hiccups and answer before you've finished your tea.
UK Exchange Network is a trading name of UKEX Currency Services Ltd, registered in England & Wales (Company No. 15829004), registered with HMRC as a Money Service Business. These details are illustrative — this site is a demonstration and the domain ukex.net is for sale.
